Abnormal Vaginal Discharge in Malaysia: Causes, Testing & Treatment

Changes in vaginal discharge - yellow/green colour, fishy odour, itching, or bleeding - can indicate an STI (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma genitalium, trichomoniasis), bacterial vaginosis or candidiasis. Same-day NAAT and microscopy identify the cause; most are easily treated.

Noticed a change in your discharge? Confidential same-day testing identifies the cause.

FAQ

Abnormal Vaginal Discharge - frequently asked questions

Clear answers, written by our clinical team. Tap any question for its direct permalink, or reach out to your Personal Concierge for anything else.

  1. How do I know if my discharge is abnormal?

Normal discharge varies through the cycle but is clear or white with mild odour. Yellow/green colour, fishy or foul smell, itching, or bleeding between periods are signs to get tested.

  2. Is BV an STI?

BV is not strictly an STI but is associated with sexual activity. It is treated, and recurrence is common. Untreated BV increases susceptibility to STIs including HIV.

  3. Will my partner need treatment?

For STIs (chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomoniasis, Mgen) yes. For BV and candidiasis routine partner treatment is not usually needed unless symptomatic.

  4. Can I just buy thrush treatment over the counter?

If you have classic candidiasis symptoms it may be reasonable, but recurrent or atypical symptoms warrant testing because BV, STIs and dermatological conditions can mimic thrush.

  5. Is this private?

Yes - your personal health concierge coordinates everything confidentially. Results are shared only with you.
