Why Rapid STI Testing Matters
Traditional STI testing often requires days for results to return, causing unnecessary stress and delays in treatment. Rapid testing changes that. By providing same-day or next-day results, you can:
- Reduce anxiety by getting answersimmediately
- Begin treatment sooner, improving outcomes and reducing transmission risk
- Protect partners through early detection and intervention
- Encourage regular screening due to the convenience and speed of results
Whether you’re testing after a potential exposure, starting a new relationship, or checking as part of routine care, rapid testing makes staying healthy easier than ever.
1. Rapid HIV Testing – 3rd and 4th Generation Options
At Hisential, we offer both third-generation and fourth-generation rapid HIV tests, tailored to your situation and testing window.
Third-Generation Rapid HIV Test
This test detects HIV antibodies (produced by the body in response to infection).
- Window period: around 3 to 12 weeks after exposure
- Result time: within 20 minutes
- Purpose: useful for patients testing later after exposure, or for routine screening
Fourth-Generation Rapid HIV Test
This advanced test detects both HIV antibodies and p24 antigen, a viral protein that appears earlier in infection.
- Window period: around 2 to 6 weeks after exposure
- Result time: within 20 minutes
- Purpose: ideal for recent exposures where early detection is critical
Both tests are highly accurate when performed after the appropriate window period, and reactive (positive) results are always confirmed by a laboratory-based test.
2. Rapid Syphilis Testing
Syphilis is caused by Treponema pallidum, a bacterium that can remain silent for years while still causing long-term harm if untreated.
Hisential’s rapid syphilis test detects antibodies to the syphilis bacterium using a finger-prick blood sample.
- Window period:typically3 to 6 weeks after exposure
- Result time: within 15–20 minutes
- Purpose: suitable for early detection and follow-up testing after treatment
Rapid syphilis testing helps ensure that infections are caught as early as possible as symptoms of syphilis may not be obvious.
3. Rapid PCR Testing for Gonorrhoea and Chlamydia
For gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) and chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis), Hisential uses rapid molecular testing (PCR) — the same technology used in advanced hospital and reference laboratories.
Unlike conventional cultures that can take days, our rapid PCR test detects the DNA of the bacteria directly, giving results in a few hours.
- Window period: about 7 to 14 days after exposure
- Result time: within the same day
- Sample types: urine, throat swab, or rectal swab (depending on exposure site)
Why PCR Matters: The Science Behind Sensitivity
PCR, or polymerase chain reaction, amplifies bacterial genetic material so that even minute amounts of DNA can be detected. The lower the test’s Limit of Detection (LOD), the more sensitive it is.
Our system’s LOD is among the lowest in the industry — typically around 1 to 10 colonies per millilitre for gonorrhoea and around 100 copies per millilitre for chlamydia.
This means the machine can identify infection even when bacterial levels are extremely low, ensuring early and accurate diagnosis especially when there may not be any symptoms.
