Solving Premature Ejaculation

Introduction

Premature ejaculation is a common problem affecting about one-third of men. However, in some, it is pretty severe, requiring treatment.

Most experts agree that if someone can have a sexual act for about seven minutes or more, that is well enough. However, if a sexual act continues for less than a couple of minutes, it is an issue.

Men living with premature ejaculation (PE) feel embarrassed to seek medical attention. However, it is necessary to manage the condition as it has ill effects both for the patient and the sex partner.

For men living with PE, it not just means poor sexual experiences. It also means low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, feeling of guilt, poor body image, and much more. In addition, it may lead to erectile dysfunction and relationship problems in the long run.

Doctors also recommend that men should make a list of their issues that they think are related to PE before seeking medical advice. Some things to consider are how quickly you ejaculate? Do you ejaculate at the beginning of intercourse or after a minute of sexual intercourse? Additionally, one should also inform a doctors about other medical conditions a person may be living with.

Premature ejaculation treatment

PE has more to do with psychological issues or some underlying chronic health issues in most cases. Thus, the approach is to treat the underlying health disorder and use non-pharmacological means to manage PE. Some non-pharmacological means are pretty simple and yet effective.

Behavioral techniques

Any PE treatment must start with non-pharmacological means. Generally, doctors recommend people living with PE to take a break from sexual encounters, as this would help psychologically by taking off the mental pressure. In some cases, this simple advice may do wonders.

The next way is to try to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles. One of the best ways to do this is with the help of Kegel exercises. It is a simple exercise. In the exercise, you tighten the muscles used while stopping peeing (remember not to use the lower abdomen or gluteal muscles).

A person holds these muscles tight for about five seconds and then releases them in the technique. It is repeated about ten times, and this exercise is done 3-4 times a day. If you are still unsure how to do it correctly, you can find many online sources regarding Kegel exercises.

Another technique that works is pause-squeeze. During sexual activity, when you feel that you are about to ejaculate, just pause and ask your partner to squeeze the penis where the head joints the penile shaft. This would help prevent ejaculation. After some practice, a person would start gaining control over ejaculation.

Reducing sensation

Another simple way could be to use methods that reduce sexual sensation. Even using simple latex protection may work for many men. However, there is also special latex protection for PE. These latex protection contain small amounts of anesthetic agents, help reduce sensation and prolong sexual performance.

Medications

If some of the above strategies did not work, one can buy an anesthetic cream or spray containing lidocaine or other local anesthetics. These sprays or creams should be used a few minutes before sex, and they considerably reduce sensation and help prevent PE.

Doctors can also prescribe medications for managing PE, and they should be the last resort. It is because these medications are not good for regular use. Since the serotonergic pathway is involved in PE, using antidepressants may help. Doctors may prescribe antidepressants, certain painkillers like tramadol, and other drugs like dapoxetine.

It appears that for some individuals, PDE5 inhibitors like sildenafil or tadalafil may also work.

Conclusion

To conclude, PE is a common issue among men. Fortunately, there are many ways of managing the condition. One may use some of the methods recommended here without consulting a specialist. However, if it does not help, it is always a good idea to seek medical attention.

14 April 2024, 1:53pm First time here for consultation on Sunday. Fee for weekdays RM60-85 and weekends RM100. I was notified prior for weekdays fee only, not weekends. It would be great if Eva, the assistant from WhatsApp could mention all the fees clearer to their customers. Anyway, my consultation with ‘Dr. Siao’ was amazing. Very informative and precise, attention to detail. 5 stars for him. Environment inside the clinic is very professional as well. The reception at the front also amazing.
